Fundraisers tipped to meet in final

General News

Earlier this month, world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei and former world champion Taufik Hidayat joined forces to raise more than RM700,000 (USD206,000) for the Japanese tsunami and earthquake victims.
The Malaysian and the Indonesian have always been good friends on and off the badminton court and while they can share a laugh, they will resume the serious matter of winning OSIM BWF World Superseries titles when the YONEX SUNRISE India Open Superseries is held from April 26-May 1.
Chong Wei, who has won two of the three OSIM Superseries titles on offer this season – winning the Malaysian Open and All England Championship – will begin the fourth leg of the series with a tie against local lad Ajay Jayaram.
In the bottom half of the draw, Taufik, who won his first ever Superseries title in France last year, is seeded second and will open his campaign against a qualifier.
Standing in Taufik’s way to the final is third seed Peter Gade of Denmark, who has been drawn in the same half as the former Olympic champion. The European faces Japan’s Kazushi Yamada in the first round.
Japan’s Kenichi Tago, who lost last year’s All England final to Chong Wei, is seeded seventh and will be looking for revenge as he is slated to meet the Malaysian in the quarter-finals.
